Rowlands LLP secures £825,000 Settlement |
| This week, Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust paid £825,000 in damages to former employee Lisa Carter. Rowlands Solicitors LLP secured this exceptional settlement for Carter, ending a compensation case which has lasted ten years. The settlement was reached three weeks before the date scheduled for the court hearing.
Ms Carter’s injuries, which have kept her out of work since the 1990s, were sustained during her career as a community carer. The claimant was assaulted on a daily basis and, she states, many carers dealt with the same challenging working conditions.
After a period of sick leave following one particularly violent incident, Trafford Healthcare sent her back to the very same houses where the worst assaults occurred. She identified poor training and staff shortages as some of the reasons for the assaults.
Following the second violent assault in 1999 from which she has never fully recovered, responsibility for learning disabilities, behavioural problems and mental health needs was transferred to Calderstones NHS Trust and an independent enquiry conducted.
